Public Education Information

Education, especially of our youngest citizens,
is important work for the Kenly Fire Department.
What would you do in the event of an emergency when basic services like water, gas, electricity or phone were not available? The Kenly Fire Department encourages everyone to prepare a Family Disaster Kit. Download our Disaster Supplies Kit checklist to learn more about what you need to include.
Fire Safety Information
There are approximately 1,300 fires in the United States every day. To keep your home and family safe, stop fires before they start. You can prevent fires by taking the following precautions:
- Smoke detectors should be installed on every level of your home. Test smoke detectors monthly and install new batteries at least twice a year.
- Every home needs an escape plan with at least two exits from each room. Plan and practice your escape plan monthly.
- Keep at least three feet clear around space heaters, wood stoves, and fireplaces.
- Don't overload electrical outlets. Never run cords under rugs, through door jambs, or across walkways.
- Never leave cooking unattended. Keep your stove surface and oven clean
- Install a multi-purpose fire extinguisher in your home and garage. These can be used on fires involving wood, cloth, flammable liquids, or electrical equipment.
