Kenly Public Works Department
The Town of Kenly Public Works Department provides the following services to our citizens:

Wastewater Treatment Plant

The Town’s wastewater treatment plant is currently treating an average of 400,000 gallons of sewage per day and discharges into the Little River. The plant is permitted to a capacity of 630,000 gallons per day. The plant is located at 102 Truckstop Road.

Garbage Collection

The Town of Kenly has a contractual agreement with Waste Industries Inc. to provide garbage collection services for our citizens. Waste Industries provides rollout containers for curbside pickup on Wednesdays.

Water and Sewer System Maintenance

The Town of Kenly purchases water from Johnston County and sells it to our customers. All sewage is treated at the town’s wastewater treatment plant. The Public Works Department handles system repairs, water and sewer taps, and running new lines. We strive to keep our system operational at all times. There may be times when our crews need to interrupt your service to make repairs as we try to keep your lines in excellent working condition.

Meter Reading

Water meters are read around the 15th of every month. Water bills are mailed around the 25th of the month and are due the 10th of the following month.

Street Maintenance

The Town of Kenly maintains 10.4 miles of streets. This includes pothole repairs, resurfacing, and sign maintenance. The town also does minor sidewalk repair.

Mowing

The town’s right of ways, parks, and other facilities are mowed on a regular basis.

Brush Collection

The Public Works Department collects brush on a year round basis along its right of ways. The Town does not pick up heavy limbs or large pieces of trees that are left by contractors or those in the tree removal business. This is the responsibility of the contractor.

Leaf Collection

Leaf collection begins in late October and usually ends in late December. The requests listed below will make collection more efficient and insure that the leaf piles are not left uncollected for several days.
  • Do not rake leaves until late October
(this may remove the temptation for individuals to re-scatter the leaves)
  • Do not put leaves in bags
Our leaf collection equipment will not handle plastic bags, and leaves in bags will be left behind.
  • Do not mix trash or limbs with leaves
The equipment that the town uses will not pick these items up.
  • Leaves must be raked into a pile at the edge of the sidewalk or street, not in the street or on the sidewalk.
Residents are asked to please comply with this request. Each year there are individuals that block sidewalks and sometimes streets with piles of leaves. This causes traffic problems, and if sidewalks are blocked kids may try to walk around these piles and into the streets.

Routine Town Facilities' Maintenance

Public Works Employees also handle maintenance and repair issues for the Town Hall, Town Library, Civic Center, and other public buildings in town.
